Biographical Sketch:
I come from the west Texas border town of Del
Rio. It is a sleepy and dusty ole place but full of lots to do if
you love the outdoors. My family runs a sheep and goat ranch and
this is where I spent most of my free time as a kid. This is also
where I came to have a great appreciation and respect for all things
great and small. This respect transferred to my dental patients and
I gained an appreciation for what I can do to help those in need of
my services. This in turn steered me into the practice of pediatric
dentistry. I found that working with kids gave me the most
satisfaction in my job. Before I decided to do a residency in
pediatric dentistry, I wanted to be 100% sure this was for me. I
decided to take a job where I worked in Arizona on the White
Mountain and San Carlos Apache Indian Reservations doing mobile
pediatric dentistry. I truly miss the “rez” and hope to one day
possibly do some missionary work for Native Americans. Working on
the “rez” helped solidify my love for pediatric dentistry but there
was still the feeling that I was missing some parts of general
dentistry that I had not yet experienced. Because of this, I then
applied and was accepted to an AEGD in San Antonio. I felt that if
I did want to do pediatric dentistry this would be the deciding
factor. I placed lots of implants, bonded multiple sets of veneers,
learned IV sedation techniques, extracted impacted wisdom teeth, and
did way too many sets of dentures. However, nothing compared to
finishing just one small filling on a scared pediatric patient and
the joy I felt when they were able to make it through the
appointment and at the end have a smile. Pediatric dentistry also
brought me to my wife, Loral. What else can I say? Not a single
doubt exists in my mind for the choices I have made. I am truly
grateful to God for where He has put me and the great experiences I
am gaining being a pediatric dentist.
Some of my hobbies include hiking, mountain
biking, rock climbing, snowboarding, skateboarding (wearing
full pads), surfing, art, photography, music, traveling,
videogames, golf and almost all water sports. I guess you can say
that I love working with kids because deep down I am still a kid. I
truly look forward to working with your child or children and will
go out of my way to help them in any way I can.
Sincerely Your Amigo,
Howard “Mister” Hunt Jr., DDS
